Exciting 1 Credit Courses for Spring 2016

Check out these exciting 1 credit courses running this spring (2016). Each of the 1-credit courses will meet on a Friday evening from 5:30 – 9:20 PM and on Saturday 9-5 PM. These courses are all listed under the INTM 3150 prefix.

INTM 3150.02 Web Development with WordPress
Friday 1/8/16 5:30pm – 9:20pm

This course covers the basics of using WordPress as both a blogging platform and a CMS (content management system) for a web site. Students will learn how to get a blog up and running as well as how to install, customize and market their blog. Additional topics include building and modifying themes and managing plugins to enhance functionality and leveraging your blog to generate ongoing revenue.

INTM 3150.06 Photoshop – Beyond the Basics (tricks, tips + cheats)

Are you ready to take your Photoshop skills to the next level? This hands-on instructor-led course will cover a wide array of techniques though guided step-by-step instructions and interactive demonstrations. Learn by doing with real-world hints, tips, and advice that will enable you to translate what you envision in your imagination to the actual screen. Topics may include: selection tools/approaches, transformation/distortion, image adjustment/manipulation, compositing, perspective, masking, photo retouching/corrections, special effects and filters. A basic familiarity with Photoshop (e.g. interface, workspace, tools, panels) would be helpful but is not critical.

INTM 3150.03 Getting More From Your Mac

Use a Mac? I can guarantee you’re not taking full advantage of it! Taught by an Adjunct Professor who has been using Macs since they first came out in the early 1980s, by the time we’re finished, you will be a Mac ninja. We’ll talk about hardware a bit, including the best time to buy a Mac — and how you can save money when you do. You’ll learn everything about OS X, the Mac’s operating system, and we’ll also delve into some of the default apps that come with a new Apple computer. In addition, we’ll spend a substantial amount of time looking at the best apps for your Mac, especially for students. If you use a Mac, or are curious about them, take this course!

INTM 3150.04 Your Digital Toolbox: Software, Tips, & Tricks for Web Developers (& Other Creatives)

Itʼs not enough to know HTML, CSS, and some Photoshop if you want to make a living as a web developer. Just like any craftsperson, you need a robust toolbox. This course, taught by a veteran Web developer (20 years!), will go over those tools. We’ll look at text and HTML editors, as well as web browser extensions for Web developers and the best 3rd-party services for websites. In addition, we’ll also examine the best software for a wide variety of needs, including documentation, screencasting, collaboration, file transfer, managing large numbers of secure passwords, bulk renaming files, virtualization, video conversion, backup, and syncing.
